Hi, my name is Udi Ura.
You've probably already heard about me. If not, I migrated to Australia as a student in 2005. Being from Sri Lanka, I had no contacts, no friends, and no family in Australia. I had no one to tell me how to apply for jobs, face the interviews, answer the interview questions, or simply stand out from hundreds of other candidates. On top of that, I didn’t have a single friend with a good corporate office job to ask for help.
My parents spent over $100,000 on university fees, and I had a burning fire inside of me to somehow get a good office job to at least cover what they paid for.
In 2005, I was a student at Monash University in Melbourne. During my university times, I went to over 32 job interviews. Sometimes, my online application was rejected before I even got up from my chair—yep, in just three minutes! After 32 Interviews and four years of applying and facing interviews, I was devastated and disappointed. But I didn’t want to give up my dream of getting a job I could be PROUD of.
In 2009, my entire world changed when I got my first corporate job. Really. The entire world I was living in, my perspective, the opportunities I had literally changed for good. I got a call from a website design company asking me to start work. HOLY COW! I was so excited. I’m still thankful to that company because that company gave me the confidence to start up my career in Australia.
Along the way I worked for Deakin University (Burwood), Helloworld Travel, Liberty Financial and the list goes on.
The thing is, even if you have many years of experience in your country with multiple degrees, it's hard to land a good office job if you don't have this simple strategy I'm going to teach you.
